California Drivers Must Upgrade Their License to the New REAL ID

Starting October 1, 2020, regular driver’s licenses or ID cards will not be accepted as a valid form of federal identification. Therefore, you will need REAL ID to fly domestically, federal courthouses, or military bases. But with DMV offices so crowded, what can I do?
How To Get a REAL ID?
Unfortunately, no one can get a REAL ID through online or by mail. You must visit the DMV office (appointment is recommended).
Here is what you need to bring to the DMV to get REAL ID:
- Proof of identity, such as a certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate, U.S. passport, employment authorization document, permanent resident card or foreign passport with an approved form I-94
- Proof of your Social Security number, such as an SSN card, W-2 or pay stub with full SSN
- Two documents proving California residency, such as a rental or lease agreement, mortgage bill, utility bill or employment, medical or school document
- If you’ve legally changed your name, bring an original or certified copy of a name change document, such as a marriage certificate or divorce decree
What If I Don’t Have a REAL ID by the Deadline?
If you don’t have a REAL ID by the deadline but still need to take a flight, then will you will need to have a passport/passport card, global entry card or other federal approved documents in order to get through security and board your plane.
Do I Actually Need a REAL ID?
Technically, you do not need a REAL ID if you have another form of federal identification like a passport or global entry card. However, if you do not have a passport or global entry card, you will need a REAL ID to fly domestically.
How Do I know If I Already Have a REAL ID card?
Every California REAL ID has a golden bear in the top-right corner and poppies on the bottom left. In addition to other security features including the appearance of the Golden Gate Bridge and Coit Tower under ultraviolet light.

What Types of Tickets Do We Help With?
